On Favoritism

It honestly just really bugs me when people show obvious favorites.

For me personally, this applies primarily to teachers, coaches, and maybe even friends. Somehow I always feel this hostile air of preference when I’m with certain people, and it always somehow ends up making me feel bad.

I’ve been seeing it mostly in a couple of my teachers lately. I definitely do have certain teachers that are great and very fair to each one of their students. No one gets special treatment, and no one is treated with a ridiculous level of condescension, either. However, there are teachers of mine that I’ve noticed to have very obvious favorites in my classes. It’s not that I want to be the “teacher’s pet” or anything; it just bugs me when the people who are supposed to help us learn seem to want certain students to do better than the others. I feel like it’s very important for bias to be kept to a minimum in education facilities especially, because you never know which students will really be successful in the long term.

Maybe it’s all in my head. But I just can’t help but think that it’s out there, floating around in the cloud of opinions and choices.
