Social Media Explains My Novel

Greetings, lovely nerdlings! I have been resurrected from the dead to finally write up another blog post. Today’s gonna be something a bit different than the usual blabber by yours truly… my good friend Kate tagged me in a thing she made up herself: the Social Media Tag!

The rules here are simple: copy down and answer the questions below (about your novel or story or anything along that line), then tag five of your writer friends to do it as well. Now, without further ado, let’s get to these questions!

Twitter: Describe your plot in 140 characters or less.

Girl finds red typewriter, eats peanut-butter-mayonnaise sandwiches, and goes on a spontaneous road trip with her best friend’s huge family.

Facebook: With the parents/grandparents flooding this site, who is your oldest character?

The oldest characters in my novel would probably be my MC’s best friend’s parents, but if you want to count really really central characters, then it would be her oldest brother.

Instagram: What does one of your characters look like? #selfie (find the closest picture you can!)

Since I’m addicted to drawing, have a picture I made of Kat a little while back.

Kat Fisher

But here’s a picture of what she might be as a realistic person.

WordPress: Designing your theme is the funnest part, so how would/did you design your book cover?

Eeeeek, this is exciting to think about! I’ve always had sort of an image of a black outline of a jar taking up the majority of the space of the front with the title and my name inside of it… then there would be these little flowers and grass things that the jar would be sitting on. Here, just have this crude sketch I did in about two minutes:

Tumblr: Naming your blog is so difficult! What did you name your book?

I named my book My Life as a Mayonnaise Jar because of this one conversation I had with my mom. The first title I had for this story was actually The Mush Project, and the characters/plot were totally different before I changed the title. My mom was telling me about this one video or article or something that someone sent her in which a professor spoke about happiness being like filling up a mayonnaise jar- if anyone out there knows of the thing that I’m speaking of, please do let me know. 🙂 Get your weirdest questions answered. Ask your main character one weird question, and have that character answer.

Me: Kat, if you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?

Kat: A… a tree?

Me: Yes, a tree. Do not question my actions; I created you, remember?

Kat: Yeah, yeah…

Me: *flails around* IF I CREATED YOU THAT MEANS I CAN GET RID OF YOU TOO, I CONTROL YOUR VERY EXISTE- oh, who am I kidding, I would never get rid of you…

Kat: *smirks* That’s what I thought.

Me: Just answer the question. Please. Do it for the blog.

Kat: *rolls eyes* I guess I would be a birch tree? Because I like birch trees?

Me: Good enough.

Pandora/Spotify: What kind of music are you playing whilst writing? If you don’t listen to music, what do you think your main character would listen to?

Holy cannoli I have so much music that I listen to while writing different things- I even have separate playlists that I’ve compiled over time to have specific music that fits in with what I write. Currently, though, my general song addiction is Make Me So by Yellowcard; it’s from their newest album which is being released October 7th!!!!!

That was slightly off-topic. Oops.

Myspace: All good things must come to an end! What is one book idea that you were really into, but lost interest in?

Well, recently, I’ve actually been very into my current novel ideas, but I guess you could say I lost interest in this one idea I had for a novel a couple years back- it was more in the fantasy genre, and about halfway through I sorta gave up on writing it. 😛 Hopefully it doesn’t happen too often in the future, though!

So there you have it! I had quite a lot of fun doing this, and I’d like to spread the fun to these five lovely humans:

  1. Nirvana at Nirvana’s Pocketful
  2. Wild Spirit at Pen to Paper
  3. The Paper Butterfly
  4. Nevillegirl at Musings from Neville’s Navel
  5. Anyone else who wants to do this tag because I can’t think of anyone else off the top of my head… oops.

Have a fantabulous weekend, friends!

Eeek! Thanks for tagging me – I can’t wait to do it 😀

I love your idea for cover of the book. It sounds pretty cool! And that convo with Kat was just hilarious XD
