The lights are all off, as usual, with the exception of the red and blue bulbs with their waves mingling to cast a loud purple hue across the DJ booth. The garage door, which remains drawn closed only about 60% of the time here at the KSDT radio station, is pulled completely up and leaves a gaping view of the innards of the DJ booth, where open mic acts trickle in one after another.  Continue reading

Outside Lands Highlights

My friend Rory’s dad won some extra Outside Lands passes this year because he ordered an extra naan (long story), and I was lucky enough to get to go along with them for all three days.

Outside Lands is a quintessential San Francisco festival, featuring various artists from musicians to painters to chefs to brewers. This year marks ten years of Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park.  Continue reading

5PM, peacefully noisy city

we wander the neighborhood.

When I get back from school, I don’t take off my shoes until I’ve walked my dog. We venture up and down through our hilly neighborhood, stopping occasionally while he sniffs at various bushes along the sidewalk. Sometimes we run, and my lungs will be screaming for air after reaching the top of a steep slope, but the rush of moving so quickly is worth it.  Continue reading
