A short note to make sure I don’t already break the goal of semi-regular writing in the first month of the year.
I told myself I would write at least one blog post every month, so here we are. I tried writing something on my actual birthday as I was sitting in my parked car at the beach, breakfast burrito in hand, but let me tell you– it’s a little difficult to type while one hand is occupied holding approximately a pound of eggs, potatoes, and cheese. It’s been a few days of Adulthood™ now. Pretty much nothing has changed, but I must say I am excited by the thought that I could go get another ear piercing right now if I wanted to (don’t worry, Mom, I’m not actually going to– it’s more expensive down here in San Diego anyway).
The most ridiculous way I’ve ever heard of singing “happy birthday” has been in my seventh period AP English class. Well, the most ridiculous so far.
Whenever there’s a birthday, my teacher declares that all are to sing according to the following rules:
- Any key.
- Any pace.
- Any tone of voice.
- Any language.
- There are no rules.
I feel like I usually shy away from being sung to, even when it’s around a cake with family and friends- I never know where to look or what to do in reaction. However, I think those 30 seconds of embarrassment today were worth it because this particular rendition of this over-sung tune was magnificent. Continue reading
