Once Upon a Time: Recording Rediscovered

I’ve always been enamored with the idea of being able to record and produce music.

I remember that in middle school, I discovered that there was an entire community of rising musicians making their base on YouTube. I’d watch as different artists evolved from recording rough snippets of songs with PhotoBooth on their computers to creating full-length, professional-quality music videos with incredible backing track.  Continue reading

Once Upon a Time: Let’s go exploring!

When I was little, I was absolutely convinced that I was a very serious, very legitimate explorer of wilderness.

My friends and I would gather up our food, water, binoculars, and notebooks and head out to the backyard, where we would set up camp in the play structure. There, we would have very serious and legitimate conversations about very serious and legitimate things like bird count, caterpillar food, and bunny races. Those days when my biggest worries were what I would be eating for lunch and who I could have a “play date” with next. The idea of actually having to do WORK to get far in life was pretty foreign to me, and I wasn’t at all worried about middle school.

It was that summer that was the start of something big.
